Joan's Upcoming Events

I'd love to meet you in person! As events are scheduled, I'll post them here. My suitcase is always packed and I'd love to speak at your event or to your organization. If you are interested, please email me. See more information about my aging and sexuality talks here, and testimonials from clients here.

Subscribe to my occasional newsletter for news, views, and events here. You'll know when I'm visiting your city, and you'll get news of my webinars  on topics related to senior sex, dating, and relationships.

What’s a webinar, how does it work, and why should you care?

A webinar is an online class. Using a web camera and microphone, I give an information-packed, lively presentation similar to the way I teach when I travel, but you watch online instead of waiting for me to come to your city. You can watch live if it fits your schedule, or watch a video recording of it later, or both. These classes are on topics that you -- my subscribers and readers -- have requested.

Instead of waiting for the next live webinar, I encourage you to view the video recordings of the most recent ones. They include the entire 90-minute class, and I'm happy to answer your questions afterwards by email, since you couldn't ask your questions during the live event.

I look forward to meeting you -- either in person or online!

Recent webinars, available for viewing online:

If you're interested in a webinar that has already happened, you can purchase viewing rights  for $49 for one; $45 each for two; or $40 each for three or more. Each webinar is recorded in its entirety and you can watch at your convenience -- multiple times if you wish. Once payment has been received via PayPal or check, I'll send you the link and password.  Email me for details, telling me which webinars you wish to view.

Great Sex without Penetration
Let’s get one misconception out of the way. Sex without penetration is still sex. Real sex. Hot sex. The idea that only penetrative sex constitutes “real sex” limits our creativity and our satisfaction. There are many reasons that penetrative sex might be off the table, but that leaves us with a smorgasbord of delectable options. Get new ideas for what we can do instead to express ourselves sexually, arouse ourselves and each other, share intimacy, and enjoy orgasms. Learn how to talk to a partner about sexual limitations and possibilities and how to negotiate more satisfying sexual expression. Handout included. Recorded June 1, 2017

It appears that I am just beginning to learn things that I should have learned a half century ago. In November 2006, I presented a magic show at a Mensa gathering in San Francisco. Happily, my show was well received.

One of the excellent speakers at the convention was Joan Price, author of Better Than I Ever Expected: straight talk about sex after sixty. Her presentation was intriguing . . . so much so that I bought two of her books: Better Than I Ever Expected and The Anytime, Anywhere Exercise Book

I have devoured her Better Than I Ever Expected book. It opened my eyes to what I had been missing . . . that I need not be missing! Wow!

Joan, thank you for your wisdom, and for changing my life in ways that are . . . uh . . . Better Than I Ever Expected!

  2. Joan,
I enjoyed your presentation and your candor at the Redwood Writers meeting Sunday evening. I think you are going to be a huge success … we will hear much about you in the years to come. I am determined to make it to one of your Sunday evening line dancing classes! I wrote about your negative blog experience on my blog to continue the discussion. It was great meeting you!

  3. Catherine, thanks for your comment and for your thoughtful post about sex after 60 on your own blog, http://journals.aol.com/rapieress/Aweekinthelife. I enjoyed reading it.

I would have posted a comment on your blog, but you have to have an AOL account to comment. I wonder if you can change that setting...?

What a great interview! Thank you so much for appearing on CALLING ALL AUTHORS. I am sure our listeners learned some interesting information -- and I know I did. It is good to have had this chance to learn from the "expert" and to bring your perspectives to the show.

Feel free to return to the program later in the year if you'd like. I imagine there are more items of interest you could share for at least another segment!

  6. Happy to read that the tone of these workshops is that sex is for everyone, not just the heterosexually partnered.

Sounds like lots of folks get a lot out of these events. You go Joan!

    Joan,
It was truly nice speaking with you today and I am really looking forward to reading your book Better Than I Ever Expected: Sex and Aging. I truly wish the ladies at the senior center where I work would adopt the same spirit and attitudes you espouse in your writings. I am right there in that category of younger men who love older gorgeous woman with your mindset. Like I had said, I am 50 years old and I desire ladies who are between 65 and 80. Widows who are active and have raised a family are my favorite I think. I truly hope you are able to change minds in society one at a time.

  9. Hi Joan!
Thank you for visiting my blog (http://ladynyo.wordpress.com) and leaving such a lovely comment.

Being married for 26 years to a man who is 8.5 years younger, I've had to make some adjustments! LOL! I've had to 'bend' a bit, and throw off some very puritanical beliefs and practices. With this young husband, (who doesn't have the 'experience' I had, being older) well, he sure was paying attention where I had my eyes closes and my jaws clenched.

Sex at 63 is better than ever! He is accepting of all sorts of aging issues and has changed my perspective on all the possibilities.

I am working on another book (my fourth) and I haven't had time to get yours yet...even though I'm in it! LOL~

Keep writing and blogging as you do, Joan. There is a whole world of people out there who need what you deliver!

    Hugs,
    Jane (used to be Teela)

  10. Your talk June 4 was wonderful; it’s clear you know the subject matter -- breadth and depth. You appeared relaxed and enjoying the “conversation” with your audience. And yes it was a solid turnout. Good reason for that, everybody in the age group is looking for answers and information and as usual our women are leading the way to the dialogue.

In Joan’s new book Naked at Our Age I would like to place a comment

Like Bob Steller says he is just beginning to learn. I must agree with that concept. Because i was married 49 years and never could find a way to please my wife. It was always bewildering to me so much I thought I was stupid about sex. And my wife never communicated with me weather it was good bad or what she thought might be worth trying it was overwhelming the mental strain it put on me and our marriage.

So after having prostate cancer and treatments at age 58 I figured I was done after that. My mind wanted to continue on but physically I was at a loss. I tried Viagra it worked so what but I hated how it made me feel after sex. That’s when I decided to start doing some serious reading about sex one book I read was Joan’s book Better Then I Ever expected I found it very informative and started me thinking about myself and weather I needed to change my attitude about sex and my partner.

So the journey began what I learned was there are a ton of things that can affect ones ability to perform. At an older age many of us are taking medications for different reasons they have their side effects on our sexual systems. For instance lets assume your partner came down with Lupus. Well because of it you get a bonus disease Sorgens disease. The meds you take for this can cause dryness and constipation. Their for a partner may not wish to have sex. Due to lack of lube and may be too embarrassed to tell you. What we are saying hear is we must be aware of our partners health issues and communicate with them, maybe even come up with some trial and error lubes to assist.

My new wife R is great at communicating her likes and dislikes she also tells me if it was good or bad after we have had sex sometimes. I use to be a bit shy about my looks but she has said many times to me complements about my appearance, which made me feel good after so many years.

If you have ED keep in mind that what you eat that day has a great affect on the medications to work properly. Such as too much meet or drinking beer or whisky. Also your emotional level can cause the drugs not too work..

I started researching about sex at age 58 just too late. Ill be 68 soon and still active one of the reasons is my wife’s attitude along with willingness to try new things out together. So for me these I can truly say sex is good and great and enjoyable all at the same time

Thanks to my special wife R

  12. Hi Joan:

I LOVED your presentation at the Center for Sex and Culture. Nice crowd and everyone seemed to fee the same way I did. You have great information, but in addition, you speak frankly and from the heart, which is very refreshing and effective.

  13. I had the good fortune of attending and participating in Joan Price’s, "Ask Me, I'll Tell You" workshop. After the experience I feel compelled to rave about what an informative and fun time was had by all.

As an award-winning erotica writer who enjoys reading, writing, and particularly, having sex, I found Joan’s approach to teaching the joys of senior sex to be engaging and enlightening. It’s important to be reminded that satisfying sex doesn’t have to end as we age. It was great sharing sex tips with Joan and the other participants.

I found our facilitator to be warm, friendly and her questions invited lots of discussion. It was easy to tell she cares deeply about this topic and she hopes to make a difference in other’s lives through sharing her experiences, knowledge and listening to our stories too. Her candor, wit and charm added to the information, anecdotes and suggestions she shared. The insight gained by listening to others and realizing most of us have been in similar situations was invaluable.

Whether you’re satisfied with your sex life or not, there’s something in this workshop for everyone. It’s bound to improve your sex life or rekindle the flame.
